Modern Warfare 3 breaks pre-order, day 1 shipment records
If pre-order and day one shipment figures from Activision prove to be correct, latest Call of Duty could smash entertainment launch records for a third year running.
Pre-orders for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 outpaced pre-orders for Call of Duty: Black Ops by a wide margin, setting a new industry record in making it the most pre-ordered game of all time. More than 1.5 million people attended 13,000 midnight store openings globally, and that Activision cannot be more pleased with the global game reviews.
The momentum of the franchise over the last two months has been unprecedented, even in the face of a number of aggressive, competitive launches. Not only did the pre-orders of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 continue their record-setting pace during the last two months, but remarkably, before, during and since the competitors’ launches, Call of Duty: Black Ops maintained its status as the most played game on Xbox Live, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 remained the second most played game on Xbox Live.
This is pretty incredible given that these titles are 12 and 24 months old, respectively and are still ranked ahead of several much hyped titles launched this year. That, combined with the record-setting presales of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, should certainly demonstrate that the COD fan base is more engaged than ever, the strength of the Call of Duty brand is stronger than ever and in fact, is still on the rise.
